Thank You from Bruce's Family
Dear McMerc,
Please accept this letter on behalf of myself, Darren and Stephen and indeed Bruce as a Thank You for a great 18 years with the SOCP.
This past month has undoubtedly been the most difficult time of our lives but the warmth, support and friendship from all of you has made the road a little less rocky. Some of you have known our family for 18 years, some not quite so long or even as well, and some may have only have known Bruce as the “Big Guy” that requested your dues every year and could often be heard complaining about the new smoking bylaws. But you all shared in our lives one thing Bruce truly loved: “Classic Ford Trucks”.
Some of you may remember an article I wrote for “The Benchracer” a very long time ago about the “Mistress” each SOCP wife shares her husband with, but we were truly touched and honored to see them all in the parking lot at Bruce’s Memorial Service and to see so many of you there was overwhelming.
Quite honestly, over the years there were many times I cursed the SOCP!! Close to 18 anniversaries or Father’s Days were shared with the Club Picnic, late night newsletter sessions, male bonding and endless conversations about steering columns, boxes, and chops; Friendships made and a few lost; Bruce unable to find a penny when trying to balance the club books; We never had enough room to store all the club stuff (including the display from Speedorama from 17 years ago, built in my living room I might add). The collectibles too numerous to mention, in every room. Vice President, President, Secretary (a rose by any other name!) and Treasurer; Club tours when I was sure there was other stuff he should be doing; The “Poor Boy Runs” and tales that went with them; Bruce loved it all truthfully, if I could change our future I would joyfully share the next 20 anniversaries and Father’s Days, I would learn to put a sharper fold in the newsletters and I would add another shelf to any room in the house for the collectibles.
Thank you, each and every one of you, for being part of our “family”, for enduring the growth pains and quirks that every family has, and for helping us through.
