Calling All Gear Heads!
SurGerry Report
April 2006
Performance World, 2006
The 2nd Official meeting of the calendar year was brief, sweet and to the point as a core group of the faithful gathered at Performance World Custom Car Show to hear club news but mostly to ogle the latest spring fashions for the Gearhead set. Jason updated the faithful on this year’s club raffle which will include a compressor and air tool set, as well as the Y2K6 Supercruise, our Picnic as well as SUNOCO Sponsorship [see below]. We have our starting point our Spring Early Bird Tour but still have room for some stops along the way so if you have ideas contact Jason, Gary or Gerry.
Tool Draw
Our fundraiser for this year is just getting underway. We are raffling off a useful Air Compressor + Tool Set, through the good graces of the Gravenhurst Lions club. Tickets will be available beginning at the Early Bird Tour and we need your help selling tickets. Please see one of the executive for a book or call or email us. We must insist that all tickets and money to be returned by Sunday August 20th or at the Arthur Ford Mercury Truck Nationals, as the draw will be held on August 21st, 2006 in Gravenhurst. Let’s help out the Gravenhurst Chamber of Commerce and raise some money for our club insurance!
Sunoco Sponsorship
Once again, we are pleased to announce that Sunoco has signed us up as a sponsored club for their Ultra 94 promotion. We will be rewarding members who attend events with vouchers for Sunoco Ultra 94 gas at all official events over the year unless otherwise noted. As well, members traveling to the SuperNationals on the cruise will receive Sunoco bucks for each day of travel in Canada. Another great reason to attend all the club events and the SuperCruise this year!
Upcoming Events:
*Next Official Event
Early Bird Run, Saturday, April 29th. 10 AM
Dust off your truck, warm up that engine and change your oil. It’s time to go for a drive! Our first tour of the year will be of particular interest to those of you doing the Supercruise to Tennessee as it’s a great chance to assure you of the performance of your truck. Our Rallying Point is Concept on Wheels. See Map enclosed.
*SuperCruise 2006 – May 18-20
Information on the SuperCruise to this year's F-100 SuperNationals is included in this issue. If you plan on attending and participating in this great event and tour, make a copy of the enclosed form and send it along with your registration money or simply bring it along to our late April tour. Don't miss out on any of the fun or the chance to win $500 in gift certificates from Pro’s Pick to be given away Saturday night at the Awards show! See you there!
*SOCP Summer Warm-up Run, June 10th in Gravenhurst
Once again we are confirming this as the official club event for June. We will have our own special area at Gull Lake Park in Gravenhurst and the event and the picnic are free for SOCP members and family. There will be 2 caravans leaving for the tour: One will leave from the west from the Walmart at Winston Churchill Road and 401 at 7 am and traveling towards the 400 and up to Gravenhurst (for info or to be met on the way, contact Jason Hustler at 905-824-2288). The second will leave from Coffeetime donuts in Manchester at 7 am and travel north on Hwy 12 and then 400 (for info or to connect, call Gary Pratt at 905-263-2661). It’s a great car and truck show, and a great day of club fun!
*Panelfest/Truckfest/Vanfest 2006, June 16-18th in Alymer
Club member Doug Nykanen is presenting the 11th edition of this show again this year. For those who have never attended, the show usually runs about 50% pickups and is actually a 3-day event with the Saturday being show day. Great fun for all and camping on site. Circle it on your calendar and plan to attend!*Goodguys Columbus OH, July 8-10th
Jason Hustler tells us this is the “must see” show of the summer. This huge show features thousands of vehicles and the most “state of the art” rods and trucks of any show that you can attend during the show season. If you want more info, call Jason at 905-824-2288.
The London show is a great event for classic truckers to attend. Saturday highlights include a late afternoon cruise thru town, and neon and sound off competition at night. Sunday’s a great show and shine and classic trucks are recognized and well rewarded, usually garnering several picks in the top 10 trucks of show every year. Last year, SOCP’s own, Larry and Pam Hill won “Best of Show” with their slick purple panel and in the past, several other Effies have won similar honours. See you in London.
*Syracuse Right Coast Nationals, July 14-16 in Syracuse NY.
Last year, SOCP had about a dozen members in Syracuse with their rides. This year we expect many to attend again and hope to have more details on a cruise there. The show is growing every year with hotter cars and more vendors and a fairly large flea market as well. Contact Gary or Gerry if you need more info or check out http://www.rightcoastcars.com
A quick update on our club trailer; We hope to be taking it along with us to Tennessee and are still looking for a couple of items for the trailer including an extra couple of taillight lenses, a pair of shocks, and some related bracketry. We could also use a space saver spare tire with both Ford and Chevy bolt patterns. As well, if you have any extra cleaners or tools to throw into the club supplies, they are always appreciated. Just think about what you may have lying around collecting dust in the garage and bring it out to a future event or meeting.????
Glen Mead, Web Wizard and Graphics Guru has built and redesigned our club website http://socp.net adding functionality and capacity for the future. While still under construction, the new site will continue to have our extensive photo gallery available to the 'surfing' public as well as an electronic club application form. Tell us what you think of the re-organized Photo Gallery! When fully functional, a members only, password protected area will host tech information and much more.
Ed. Note: Let Glen [former TOY] know you appreciate the hours of work he's logged on this project on behalf of the club next time you talk with him! Or better yet, visit his website at www.glenmead.com.
